2019 was an awesome year! We continued support of all our programs. We also partnered with new volunteers. Thank you for your ongoing support!
March Community Member Visit
In March, MSF had the opportunity to bring Community Member, Angela D.’s brother, Jamie, to visit her. Angela had not seen her brother in over a decade. She was very happy to see him! Gabriel, our Community Member Liaison, provided transportation. The organization provides 1 to 2 trips each year for families who otherwise would not be able to visit their loved ones.
Barrow County Family Connection Back to School Bash
MSF continued to supply book bags (50 total) for the event. Mark Wingfield (Mark & Company Barbershop), cut hair for free along with his helpers, (daughters). MSF also gave away 100 care packages filled with inspirational quotes, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, deodorant, shampoo, shower cap, comb, antibiotic ointment, tissue and feminine products and 200 anti-bullying packages that included a cyber-bullying brochure, inspirational quote, anti-bullying or inspirational bracelet and a blow pop.
Care packages and book bags for Louisiana students
MSF donated 22 book bags to local Baton Rouge Louisiana students and 100 care packages filled with inspirational quotes, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, deodorant, shampoo, shower cap, comb, antibiotic ointment, tissue and feminine products and 200 anti-bullying packages that included a cyber-bullying brochure, inspirational quote, anti-bullying or inspirational bracelet and a blow pop to Donaldsonville High, Lowery Middle and Lowery Elementary schools in Donaldsonville.
October Anti-Bullying Event: Self-Esteem
In October, MSF held its first 2019 anti-bullying event in Louisiana at Lowery Elementary (LOE). The foundation met with LOE’s Leadership Academy. The group consists of 5th and 4th graders that have good grades and behavior and possess leadership qualities. Any student in the group is a candidate for student of the year. The event’s theme was self-esteem. The students placed 4 characteristics they love about themselves in the 4 corners of a family crest. They were encouraged to draw and decorate it with stickers and positive sayings. The students were given the opportunity to explain what the shield represented for them. The shields will be laminated so the children can keep them in their binders/bookbags as positive reminders of themselves.
PADV Thanksgiving Events
MSF held its annual Thanksgiving events for PADV on November the 2nd and 9th. We had the honor of having special volunteer, Owen Clarke, cook our main dish, jerk chicken. To compliment the delicious dish, broccoli casserole, Hawaiian rolls, corn and salad were served. The meal was rounded out with banana pudding and brownies for dessert. The organization partnered with magician, Zach Ivins, for the entertainment. The crowd (and most of MSF volunteers) were captivated by Zach’s performance. Many audience members commented that this was their first time attending a magic show!
November Community Member Visit
In November, MSF had the opportunity to bring Community Member, Crystal H.’s family to visit her. The family was very excited to see her. MSF’s Executive Director, Shannon, had a chance to visit with Crystal for the first time! When we first started the visits, the children had not seen their mother in over 6 years.
December Anti-Bullying Event: Conscience VS Conscious
MSF’s 2nd anti-bullying event was held in December. The organization spoke again with LOE’s Leadership Academy. The Conscience VS Conscious event centered around following the positive (conscience) inner voice and being aware of your surroundings (conscious) and how you affect others. A PowerPoint presentation was used along with some very intriguing yet impactful short videos. At the end, it detailed phases of learning awareness and challenged the students to create a school wide campaign to share what they learned with the rest of the student body. Click on the links below to watch the two videos used in the presentation.
